A drastic cut was made in the budget for the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) from 9 billion to 1 billion euros. This will hit Europeana, the infrastructure supporting Europe’s free digital library, museum and archive, very hard. Europeana is now being asked to put the case for funding under the revised guidelines for CEF, which were issued 28 May 2013. Europeana will face severe competition for the available funding from other digital service infrastructure such as e-Justice, e-Health and Safer Internet. All good causes in their own right, but the wonderful digital culture infrastructure that has been built in the last decade will soon get squashed if we do not speak out now! So here goes:
University Library “Svetozar Markovic” from Belgrade, Serbia is hosting the first public workshop within the project Europeana Newspapers on June 13 and 14, 2013. The workshop gathered more than 60 experts in digitization from entire Europe.
Within the two day workshop we will talk about methods for processing the digitized materials such as OCR, OLR and NER in order to improve the search and presentation on Europeana, as well as various tools for evaluating the process of digitization.

The past years funders’ policies are playing an important role in the future of scholarly communication affecting the way HEIs publish and disseminate publicly funded research results.
In the UK, both the Finch report and the RCUK policy supported gold open access publishing and introduced a new level of discussion among librarians and repository managers about article processing fees, licenses, funds and whether compliance with these policies will shift the future of institutional repositories.
This one-day event will focus on the major funders’ policies and reports, such as the Finch report, and the RCUK and Wellcome Trust policies. You will learn everything you need to know about policies’ compliance terms, their revisions and creative commons licenses. Furthermore, the issues concerning evaluation of research outputs, such as the Research Excellence Framework (REF) and the future of institutional repositories will be widely addressed.

Reviews
Introduction
These Reviews complement the textual reviews found in The American Archivist. Specifically, the Reviews Portal is envisioned as an extension of the reviews section found in the journal, but with a more specific focus: digital (and digitized) archival content, and its related resources.
The content found here will primarily consist of slightly shorter reviews (500 to 750 words) than those found in the journal, and focus on digital and digitized archival content, tools, and resources utilized in that capacity. To lend initial guidance and consistency, reviewed items will be evaluated in part against several notions set forth in the plenary address given by John Voss during the 2012 Annual Meeting of the Society of American Archivists, including:
